High-End Fall Decor Ideas On A Budget

I’m going to start this post with a question……What is “High-End Fall Decor”? Or, what is High-End home decor in general? I’ll give you my, unofficial, definition……It is decor that looks like it was made with expensive materials or purchased in a high-end boutique or store. There…that’s my definition of what high end Fall decor is. Ok, so maybe there’s a better definition somewhere, but I think it works. And who doesn’t love high-end looking decor, right? They are beautiful, durable and they tend to be on the larger side. However, the reality is that, although we would all like to decorate our home with high-end decor, not all of us can afford it. And this is why I love what I do.

I love taking inexpensive, and at times, unusual items and turning them into beautiful, high-end looking decor. And I love doing it for every single season.

For example, let’s say I were to take a wired basket from the office isle at the Dollar Tree and turn it into a beautiful piece of Fall decor, would you believe me?! Well…..that’s exactly what I did on a recent video. I created a Fall wreath using a wired basket from the Dollar Tree and it came out absolutely stunning! Seriously. And not only did I make this wreath, I also created several more Fall decor that will blow your mind when you see them. And the best part is; they were all created on a budget.

Thrifted 90’s Wood Bench Makeover

I have been flipping furniture for a few years now and this makeover has to be one of my top 5 furniture flips! This poor bench was so neglected, dirty, beat up and, just simply, outdated. The moment i saw it on Facebook Marketplace I knew I had to buy it and give it new life.

It is now beautiful, fresh, and so darling.

You can watch the full transformation here 👇👇👇, or you can read the steps below. I also have tons of other furniture flips and DIY Home Decor on my YouTube Channel.

Today’s blog post is in collaboration with some amazing and talented ladies. They are as obsessed as i am about thrifting and upcycling. At the bottom of this post you’ll find more information about them well as the link to their post. Make sure to head on over to them and get inspired!

The first thing I had to do was remove the upper back board with the 90s hearts and replace it with a simple 1×4 board for a more modern look.

I then shop vacuumed it and cleaned it very, very well. Sanded it down a bit with my orbital sander and a 150 grit sandpaper. I dusted it very well and gave it one FULL coat of Shellac. This will help prevent any bleed-through after the white paint is applied.

Once the Shellac was dry, I gave it one coat of Killz, stain-blocking primer and let that dry completely.

Once the primer was dry I added two coats of chalk paint from Mango Paint. I distressed the edges of the bench with my orbital sander and 150 grit sandpaper, for a more farmhouse look.

I then added a French stencil to the front with Dark gray chalk paint. You can find this and other reusable stencils on my Amazon Store. I sealed the stencil with a spray top coat and then sealed the entire bench with Verathane Polyurethane in Crystal Clear. I added two coats of the sealer.

I staged it with a Summer wreath and that’s it! This 90s, neglected, beat-up and dirty bench is now fresh, clean and absolutely beautiful. It will soon be posted on Facebook Marketplace once again in search of a new forever home!

Alright…..Here are the lovely and talented ladies that will have you running to the thrift store! Enjoy!

How To Make Wood Round Signs And The Lessons I Learned In The Process

There are times when I craft, build or create when things just go so smoothly and move along as scheduled. The paint sticks without problems, cuts are straight, vinyl sticks and is smooth….. everything simply works well.

Then there are other times when things just fall apart. Days where I simply can’t get the hang of things, and nothing is just simple. Have you ever had those days?? Lol….of course! We all do.

Well….. recently I had one of those days. Nothing was going right. There we’re hiccups at every turn. I made so many mistakes while creating four door hangers! And unfortunately, sometimes the same mistakes multiple times!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

In effort to share the knowledge learned….and frustration… 😂, I decided to put a video together showcasing, not only the steps on how I made the wood round signs, but to also highlight each mistake so that we can all learn from them.

You can watch the step-by-step tutorial on how I made the wood round signs and make note of the 10 Mistakes I made and Lessons I learned right here 👇👇

How To Flip Thrifted Home Decor To Make A Statement

Flipping thrifted home decor is one of my favorite projects to work on. I love searching for those beautiful gems waiting to get new life. And it’s not that hard to turn old, outdated decor into new, updated ones. You just need a plan and a few supplies.

Once you have found a great thrifted item, decide whether you want to keep it for yourself or sell for a profit. Then make a plan on what you’d like to do with it. Maybe you want to keep it’s original design and just update it with paint, stencils, etc. Or maybe you want to give it a whole new purpose. What ever the plan or vision is, go for it.

On this post you’ll be able to watch how I took four thrifted wood items and gave them a complete new look that definitely make a statement!

My top 10 supplies for creating Farmhouse style home décor

The day I discovered “Farmhouse” style décor was the day my life was complete……well, that’s a bit exaggerated, but, it was truly a match made in heaven. I love the natural textures and the imperfect perfection it has. After months of DIYing my own farmhouse style décor, I have compiled a list of my top 10 supplies needed to create this style, or at lease my version of it” 🙂  Please know that I am not suggesting you go out and buy all this items. This is just a list of supplies that I’ve used over and over again in my home and on my tutorials on my YouTube channel.

Here’s the list……

  1. White paint – Preferably Chalk paint, because, in my opinion, it distresses better. Farmhouse style decorations tend to be on the lighter side; whites, beiges, soft greens, etc. But, I think that white is by far the most used color when painting and decorating in a Farmhouse style. Plus, it’s also my absolute favorite color for furniture and home décor. If you follow me on my YouTube channel, you probably know this to be true, and that is why it’s number one on this list.
  2.  Supplies to help you achieve a distressed look on furniture and home décor – When I say distressed look, I mean a worn-out, antique Photo_1581560384930look. This can be achieved using several supplies. My favorites are sand paper and paint. I am a fan of the distressed look, and use it all the time when painting furniture and creating home décor. I have many examples of how to distress furniture and home décor on my YouTube channel.
  3.  Jute twine and/or jute rope – I love using jute for my decorations. I think it adds natural texture to home décor. And it’s also very inexpensive. I have several on my affiliate Amazon Store.20200415_153657
  4. Greenery – You can use real greenery or faux greenery, but having some sort of greenery in your Farmhouse décor will add a fresh, natural finish to your décor. I personally love boxwood and grassy ones. I have some of my favorites in my affiliate Amazon Store.
  5.  Wooden signs – In my opinion,  wooden signs are just a staple in any Farmhouse décor. They are practically used in any room and can be in any size too. I love making wood signs and using them in my home decore. Click here  to watch a video on how you can make several styles of wooden Farmhouse signs, very inexpensively.
  6.  Galvanized buckets or containers – Galvanized buckets are another way to add texture to your farmhouse décor. The older the better, in my opinion. They can be used for florals, as planters, for storing blankets, etc.
  7.  Your favorite wood stain – Having a “go-to” wood stain is so important when trying to create a cohesive farmhouse style décor. My taste in tones have changed through the years, but have always had some on-hand when creating home décor. Wood can be some-what inexpensive to buy and can be used in multiple Photo_1581560243981ways to create home décor with a farmhouse look. Having your favorite stain will allow you to have coordinating pieces in your home.
  8.  Cotton stems – in addition to having greenery, I think that having cotton stems in your home décor will add to it’s farmhouse charm.
  9.  Mason jars – I mean, really? Do I really need to explain this one? LOL – Mason jars are the most versatile décor you could probably have in your home. They can be used in every room and for multiple uses.
  10.  Soft pastel color florals – In addition to greenery and cotton stems, having some florals in your home will be the icing on the cake. It’s such a beautiful way to add freshness to your home. I’d say stay with light, pastel colors, but that’s just my opinion.

Ok, so that’s it! Again, these are just some of the things I recommend having for a farmhouse style décor. Things that I have used over and over again in my home. If you can’t have them all at once, take your time, thrift when possible and shop at dollar stores as well!
